Pack & Prepare For Your Overnight Rafting Trip

Embarking on a multi-day adventure with River Drifters is an experience that begins well before you dip your paddle into the water. After securing your reservation, you’ll receive a detailed confirmation email outlining your trip specifics, meeting location, and instructions for completing the necessary registration forms and waivers. About a week before your journey, you can expect a personal call from your lead guide, who’ll walk through the itinerary, confirm your paperwork is complete, and address any lingering questions.

When the big day arrives (plan to be there 30 minutes early!), our friendly guides will welcome you at the designated meeting point, handle your check-in, and provide all the essential information about facilities, what to bring on the river, and secure storage for your valuables. This is where the excitement builds as you receive your two dry bags – a larger one for the camp essentials that will meet you at the campsite via our gear boat and a smaller one to keep critical items like medication and sunscreen with you on the raft. Once everything is packed and loaded, you’ll be ready to begin your unforgettable river adventure!

River-Specific Information For Overnight Rafting Preparation

Deschutes River

Check-in: 8:30 AM at River Drifters Outpost in Maupin, OR

  • Our retail shop offers commonly forgotten items (sunglass straps, sunscreen, lip balm)
  • We securely store your keys in our office during your trip

Departure: We shuttle the group to Trout Creek (approximately 1-hour drive), arriving around 11:00 AM

Guides prepare equipment, conduct safety talks, and provide paddling instruction

Daily Schedule:

  • 5-8 hours rafting
  • Lunch break
  • Side excursions and wildlife viewing
  • Evenings for hiking, games, reading, or relaxing

Trip End: We arrive at the takeout between 2:30-3:00 PM, with shuttles back to your vehicle (unless pre-arranged)

Rogue River

Pre-Trip: Arrive the night before; we recommend lodging in Grants Pass or Galice Resort

Check-in: 9:00 AM at Galice Resort on day one

  • Guides distribute dry bags, safety equipment, and answer questions
  • Secure parking available with shuttle service if pre-arranged

Departure: After the safety briefing, we travel to the starting point (10 minutes away)

Daily Schedule: Similar to Deschutes (rafting, lunch, excursions, evening activities)

Trip End:

  • Early afternoon arrival at Foster Bar takeout
  • Return all River Drifters equipment

Transportation options:

  1. Pre-arranged vehicle shuttle to take out (recommended, requires a full gas tank)
  2. River Drifters shuttle back to Galice Resort (2-3 hour drive, arriving after 5:30 PM)

Lower Owyhee River

Pre-Trip: We recommend lodging in Burns, Jordan Valley, Boise, or camping at the BLM Launch Site.
NOTE: PRINT driving directions in advance (limited/no cell service in many areas)

Check-in: 9:00 AM Pacific Time at BLM launch site in Rome, Oregon (note: Rome operates on Mountain Time)

Eat breakfast before arrival

Daily Schedule: Similar to other rivers

Trip End: Early afternoon arrival at Birch Creek takeout

Transportation options:

  1. Pre-arranged vehicle shuttle (requires AWD/4×4 vehicle with full tank)
  2. River Drifters shuttle back to Rome
